Home Groups

Home groups offer opportunities for support and getting to know people that are sometimes harder to find in the larger church fellowship.

Here at St Stephen's we believe that meeting together with other Christians in smaller groups is vital to our lives together. In a large church like ours, they make it possible for people to be known and to get to know others better.

They are a place where people can feel comfortable and find friendships that are honest and open. They are the main means by which we care for one another.

Our home groups should also be safe, supportive places where people can live, learn and grow together in their Christian lives.

We want them to be centres for living out the five purposes of our church.

  • Worship
Our home groups worship together in a way that expects intimacy with God and the empowering ministry of the Holy Spirit.
  • Ministry
Our home groups encourage people to exercise their gifts in the service of God within the group, the church and the community.
  • Evangelism
Our home groups look outwards as well as inwards and expect to grow and multiply as new groups are planted.
  • Fellowship
Our home groups encourage relationships that are genuine, honest, loving, accountable and practical.
  • Discipleship
Our home groups encourage their members to become more mature as Christians by developing their gifts and ministries and  through Bible-based learning applied to every part of life.

We want to make it possible for every member of St Stephen's to be a member of a home group.  That's why we have so many groups meeting at different times and on different days of the week.  And although they all share the same purposes, each group looks different.  With such variety, we hope that everyone can find a group that's right for them.
