Visiting a new church or going to church for the first time can be a daunting experience. We try to make it as straightforward as possible!

When you walk through the door

Someone will welcome you and may give you a book or service card. You can choose where to sit, but ask the people at the door if you'd like guidance.

When the service starts

The vicar or whoever is leading the service  will greet the congregation.

When we sing

For our 10.30am and 7.00pm services, our songs are projected on screen. If you don't usually go to church, you may not know some of the songs. That doesn't matter. Join in or just listen, as you prefer.

When we pray

A church leader or member of the congregation will lead us in prayer. Sit or kneel as you wish.

At other times

Various people will:

• update us with news about church events
• read a passage from the Bible
• give a talk based on what we've read.

Collection

At the 7.45am and 10.30am services there's an opportunity for giving money.  This is mainly for regular members, so please don't feel you have to!

How long does a service last?

The 7.45am service lasts about 45 minutes. Others usually last between an hour and an hour and a half.

Holy Communion

Some services are Communion services. Holy Communion is a central part of Christian worship, a time when we remember the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross using the symbols of bread and wine to represent his body and blood. In the service, we follow Christ's instructions to his disciples to remember him in this way.

You may also know Communion as the Eucharist, the Lord's Supper or Mass. If it's your normal practice to take Communion, you're welcome to join us in doing so. If it isn't, or you prefer not to take part, you're welcome to come to the front with everyone else and receive a prayer of blessing.

In the 10.30am service, the children and young people come in to start with, then leave for their own groups.

Opportunities for personal prayer

People are available to pray with you after the service if you want to thank God for something, ask him for help or just share something that's on your mind.

After the service

After the 10.30am and 7.00pm services, we serve refreshments at the back of the church. Feel free to stay and chat with others or make yourself known to our clergy (Mark Barker, Jason Kennedy and Sheila Perkins) or other members of the welcome team (wearing badges).
